JRI joins justice-sector leaders in Abuja to examine what a people-first justice system would require of Nigeria.
Justice Research Institute participated in People-Centred Justice: The Nigerian Story, a stakeholder workshop convened by The Hague Institute for Innovation of Law (HiiL) on 7 August 2025. Sessions examined how justice data, service innovation, practice guidelines and national strategy can be aligned to place users of the justice system, rather than its institutions, at the centre of reform.
Delegates drawn from government, the legal profession and civil society interrogated where Nigeria’s current justice pathways fail ordinary claimants and what evidence is needed to close those gaps. The convening advances Sustainable Development Goal 16.3, which commits states to equal access to justice for all.
People-centred justice shifts the measure of reform from institutional output to user outcome, a change that depends on justice-needs data Nigeria has historically lacked.
